Japanese Serenity

Right building | 1st floor

Conference rooms | Flex work desks | Photo studio

A soft space with an abundance of light, where the serene silence is not necessarily heard, but rather tasted and felt. Upon entering, you almost instinctively find yourself whispering. Japanese architecture has long been a master at balancing design and expression through the use of light materials, simplicity in design, transparent colors, and art. The influences of this Japanese aesthetic resonate throughout this floor.

Refinement

The ceilings emit a soft light over the entire floor. All mandatory functional aspects such as sensors for activating functional work lights, smoke detectors, and speaker boxes are cleverly concealed. The custom light panels are fitted with acoustic material and reinforce the serene tranquility.

Japanese Influences

The wooden cabinet wall emphasizes the airy flow of the space through its contrasting dark color with gold-colored painting, referencing the Japanese art form Kintsugi. In this Japanese art form, broken ceramics are repaired with gold-colored lacquer, as this methodology holds that traces of breakage and repair actually enhance the beauty of an object.

The black conference table is also based on a Japanese technique (shou-sugi-ban), a technique in which the wood is burned on the surface for preservation.

“The rich symbolism of Japanese artisanal traditions contributes to an atmosphere of refinement and serenity.”

Working in style

The gracefully curved white sit-stand desks by Meneer Voss and the sophisticated lighting make this floor a feast for the eyes and a calm place to work and meet. At the end of this floor on the left, a spacious photo studio is set up for product photoshoots and recordings. A deliberate choice due to the reduced light penetration on that side.
