From forgotten attic to inspiring workplace
In the beautiful National Monument located in the heart of Naarden fortress, the company Edison International has found its home. The comprehensive renovation of the monument allows the company to use and experience the entire building!
In the monument, only the first floor was well usable as an office. The attic above, due to the minimal floor height and lack of daylight, could only be used for storage. We solved this by removing part of the attic floor and letting daylight in through existing dormers and newly added skylights.
As a result, the usable square meterage has more than doubled! It has become a beautiful place to work, meet, and have lunch. The exposed beams and the height of the roof structure, showcase the National Monument in all its simplicity and beauty.
“Where everyone used to want to work downstairs, now the attic is everyone’s favorite!”
Subtle elegance
The details of these types of centuries-old buildings are often works of art in themselves. There is little need to add a much more pronounced shape to them. The furniture, which was largely designed by Voss Architecture specifically for this building, is therefore simple in design. It provides a sophisticated look through the use of wood, black steel, and leather materialization.
